One Hot Night
It was an exciting night last night here in North East Portland. Ann and I had enjoyed a nice evening of Webelos where we helped the cub scouts work on their Faith in God award by talking about talents and learned how to direct music. Following scouts we headed off to John and Wendy's to say hi and play some Trivial Persuit (close game but John was a runaway MVP). Ann and I left and arrived home shortly after 11. We got inside and got ready for bed but I had left my phone in the car (which is my alarm clock in the morning) so I grabbed the keys and went out to grab it. Looking over to the left (South of our house towards Ann's school) I saw a fire blazing...I ran over and saw that our neighbor's car was going up in flames!!!! I opened the door and told Ann to come quick, which she did and called 911 (I hadn't grabbed my phone yet) and I grabbed the hose. I knew that it was probably an oil fire because it was in the engine, but I figured water was my only option...although the 911 man informed Ann that I shouldn't. We woke our neighbors and waited for the fire truck to roll up. They arrived shortly before the tree next to the car went up in flames so everything was ok.As it turns out the car had been broken into on Sunday and burned inside, and subsequently totaled by the insurance company. It looks like it was just a return hit with a flammable type gel in the engine for kicks. I got a picture of the car attached although none with the hood open...the engine was toasted.
