Why I Love Autumn

William, Burke and I went for a walk today. It was a reminder of why Fall is my favorite time of year. Fall in Denmark is really breathtaking. We had a great time walking on the trails, watching leaves fall, climbing on fallen trees, trowing rocks, walking in mud, looking at the baby deer, and seeing lots of horseback riders.

William and Soren

OK, so I hope your'e not OD'd on Soren. The first and last pictures are just for fun. I swear we've taken hundreds of pictures of this boy already. All the time I look at him and think, "He's never looked this cute before, we have to take pictures." And the next day the same thing, "He's never looked this cute before!". The second and third pictures are to give an idea of the similar looks between William and Soren. I don't know if these pictures do it justice, but they really do look so much alike. William is #2, Soren is #3.

Mistborn

Next from the Bookworm's anonymous corner (BAC) is another fantasy novel. The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson (The Final Empire, The Well of Ascension, The Hero of Ages). It is tough to find a book that sucks you into the story and makes you want to turn the next page, but Sanderson has that rare gift of story telling that makes reading worthwhile. The Characters are engaging, the magic is fascinating, and the story is a surprise throughout.

Now I have not actually finished the Series (The Hero of ages came out a mere week and a half ago, and I cannot put my hands on a copy cheaper than $30.00 in Wenatchee), but I am sure that it will be a good read and a good finish to our reading relationship.

-Joey

Interesting Note: This year Robert Jordan (writer of the Wheel of Time books (There are 12))(He has not yet finished the series though he has all of it planned out meticulously with notes) died, and left a legacy of good fiction unfinished, and in searching for an author to finish her husband's work, Harriet Popham Rigney asked Brandon Sanderson to finish off Robert Jordan's final novel. Quite an honor, and at least the Series will be finished.

The Name of the Wind

My Name is Kvothe

I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women and written songs that make the minstrels weep.

You may have heard of me.

A little while back I stumbled upon a book that was a genuine pleasure to read. It is not often that I can find a book that is good, even when I look at bestsellers and award winners, but just stumbling into a book that is good is a rare treat. The book was "The Name of the Wind," by Patrick Rothfuss. It is written from the prospective of an older Kvothe, telling his own story. The whole story is filled with foreshadowing, giving hints of things to come that, maybe, we should already know about. I loved the writing style and the whole tale of the book. It definitely ranks as one of the greatest fantasy books I have ever read. I highly recomend this book to any group old enough to read Harry Potter.

The weekend Warriors

John and I (especially John) have been addicted to our bikes this past summer and I have always wanted to take some pictures along our routes but have always forgot or decided not to bring along the camera until this Saturday. Since John is the KOM (King of the Mountain) I think I will try and claim to be the sprinter. Either way we both wished that we had picked this up years ago. These are shots from a 30 mile ride this weekend. I believe the plan was to do a relatively flat ride with some hills. It wasn’t a killer but it wasn’t flat.

Below is the group heading out near the beginning of the ride. John is the one in yellow in the very front (We have a tendency to push the pace a bit with this group). John's neighbor, George, is sporting John's new gore jacket (very choice for cool and wet days)

In order of appearance: Rob’s shoulder, John Burke, and Brian Ekins (he doesn’t struggle to keep up)

George ascending out of the quarry and achieving maximum heart rate.

A Link Between Danish Deer and Howler Monkeys and... Bennions?

Again... think dinner at 1212.

Soren Day 2

Some more pics of my new favorite photo subject
Burke and Will are both really good older brothers. Burke is very concerned any time Soren makes the slightest noise.

Will is so helpful and he really loves to run errands for odd things that Soren needs (diaper, changing pad, wipes etc). He is honestly very helpful and loves to be close and softly touch the baby. Burke is still working on understanding the meaning of soft.

Soren Christen Bennion

We are pleased to announce the arrival of Soren to our family. He was born today (10/15) at 10:15 in the morning. Both he and Amy are doing very well. We are humbled by the incredible experience and are very grateful to have such an incredible little person added to our lives. We are excited for all of you to meet him. We'll keep you updated.
We think that he looks an awful lot like William when he was a newborn.
He was 4.23 kg (9.32) and 55 cm (21.6 in)
We are extremely blessed to have incredible friends here in Denmark. This is one of our favorites, Elpida (and John) Leit. They live two doors down and we get to together as often as possible. She came over at 4 in the morning to stay with the kids and took care of them all day. When we got home the house was immaculate. They came to see the baby during visiting hours.

Some of the boys and Will's cut

Burke and Will had a great time "riding the horses" at Tivoli. Burke was especially thrilled as soon as the horse started going up and down.

Will usually asks if he can go in to Burke to wake him up from nap time so we generally let him go in and play for a bit before we get Burke up. They are best friends and play together so well.
We had a great dinner with our neighbors last night. In traditional Danish fashion we had too much to eat and stayed way too late talking. After about 7:00 pm our kids' coordination starts to go downhill. Mixing a night out at 11:00 pm with some serious dessert (soda, chocolates, ice cream, cake, suckers and popcorn) was evidently a recipe for disaster.

Will was running around with the other kids and fell hard and hit his head on the coffee table. There was a lot of blood and a lot of tears, a trip to the ER, super glue and now William has a cool scar and some bragging rights at Nursery. Although, as you can see from the picture above, the scar does little to toughen up Will's sweet face.

Halloween in Tivoli

This weekend we spent some time in one of our all time favorite places in the world - Tivoli. They had the place decked out with pumpkins everywhere, shops with halloween and Christmas decorations, hot chocolate, soups, furs, blankets, sweaters etc etc etc. Incredibly charming. We were glad to be able to see Tivoli at Halloween before Amy delivers. It's only open for about a week before they get going on Christmas. Bring it on!
The boys had a great time in the hay maze.
Pumpkins everywhere.
The very talented Pumpkinhead band.

TR2N

Well I've got some news THIS is going to become THIS. Yep Jeff Bridges retakes on the roll of Kevin Flynn again in the Sequel to TRON. I am sorry for the poor video quality, but we can only get copies of videos taken at Comic Con international. Also the movie is slated to come out in 2010, which is at least 2 years away, but boy am I excited.

More Wenatchee Trip

Trip to Wenatchee

Some fun shots of our most recent trip to Wenatchee. First is the boys digging at Pat's. Next are biking on the loop. Then the train at Waterfront, and last is Katie glamming.
