Happy Birthday John!
33 years old. 1/3 of a century. Scary that I'm only 3 years behind.
Thanks for:
Keeping in touch so well with our family
Having William so close to when we had Burke
Great business advice
A great listening ear
Introducing me to swimming for an "easy" letter
Introducing me to BYU student govt
Being so encouraging
Blazing the trail for children to come
Marrying so well
and for giving me millions of "chances" which have unfortunately expired

Ahem....
Make that 32.
WOO HOO! Happy happy birthday! I like John because:
If he wants to know something, he'll ask!
He's a great conversationalist--with the family, and also pretty much with anyone else (Jeff Goldblum--classic John story)
He is super well read, and has grea taste in book.
He is intelligent.
He has a great trivia mind.
He pretty much knows everyone. I remember one semester at BYU when John knew every one of my professors.
He is handsome.
He makes everything fun--big things like Disney Land, and little things like staying home.
He makes everything exciting--like new cds and jackets.
He has great taste in music.
He is fun to watch movies with.
He is funny.
He introduced me to xfiles.
Has a great wife, and adorable kids!
And I love being around him.
Have a great one!
xoxo
I love John because
He is smart and exceedingly interesting.
He is informed and informative.
He is the heart of the family and has the desire and the determination to keep in touch with all of our lives.
He is so willing to learn and to change and to get better.
He is happy and finds joy in life in the present.
He is a great son and brother and Daddy and husband.
He lives life with gusto and is adventurous enough to try new things and has enough common sense to avoid going to far down the adventure road.
He is a participant and I am so proud of his involvement in PTA!
He is a go-getter and does not give up easily - Bennion DNA at work.
He is a great and fun friend.
He has strong opinions and ideas, but is anxious and very willing to hear someone else's....great quality.
He is funny - love the question on Anna's blog about Brian Kershisnik.
He will always be my first born and that is a very special place. That first baby in your arms is one of the most other worldy experiences a mother will ever have.
Happy Birthday to Mr. Lego, Mr. GI Joe, Mr. Imagination....Long live the world of pretend!
MOM
i'd just like to say that i celebrated john's bday by eating a deep fried oreo at the state fair. they also have deep fried snickers, reeses and...wait for it...pepsi. So, happy birthday john!!
That 33 made me nervous as well. I started re-adding my age. (Could I be 33 or 34 and not know it?) Thank goodness.
My memories of John are his fun adventurous spirit. I remember him being first to ride his big wheel down Morgan Hill over the ramp. (Which unfortunately got him stitches). However, for little tentative me, with my pink Barbie big wheel, I thought John was So Brave and courageous. I was very impressed with his adventurous courage.
I remember he was always very good at Leggos. Always made the most interesting things.
Introduced me to GI Joe and Star Wars.
I remember he was always a leader amongst us all. Always had creative fun ideas for play. One was never bored with John. And from what I hear, that leadership personality at 7 or 8 has translated well into your professional life as well as your beautiful family.
John, introduced me to the tv show "Chips"; (even though I didn't want to watch it as Sesame Street was on at the same time. Aunt Linda and Uncle Richard were always very diplomatic in rationing out the controversy of chips vs. sesame street. But now I fondly think of Chips. It would be fun to watch reruns of that show.
I remember playing Cowboys and Indians, playing Superheroes.
John introduced me to the candy where one dips the sticks into the flavored powder. (delicious). We got those on Sunday for good behavior, after a week of gold stars. (loved those stars). I always finished my candy right away. I can't remember who, but I think it was Donald who reserved his candy for days. So three days later, when I was out of candy, I would be looking longingly at his rationed portions of fun dips sticks.
John you were so much fun in my childhood. I can't wait to see you in December and see how childhood John has translated into adult "Dad" John. Happy Birthday!!!
Love,
Naima
Happy Birthday John! I think it is so neat that you and Nai were born in the same year. I really enjoyed it when you, Wendy and the kids visited us in Cleveland. You are a fabulous father! I came across a picture of you, Nai and Rob in cowboy outfits taken in Morgan Hill. I love your zest for life. See you at Christmas. Have a Happy Birthday. I think the rule is you get to celebrate for a week! Love Aunt Robin
