My dear friend Elisabeth came to visit me a two weekends ago and we went over to Charleston for the day. When I think of historic America I usually think New England, so when I visited Charleston for the first time, it blew me away--and I totally have fallen in love with it. They do a great job preserving historical sites and buildings--several that predate the revolution. To generalize, the south is very proud of their heritage. Being in Charleston is like going back in time to Gone with the Wind. It's even still lit downtown by gas lamps. Anyhow, here are some pics. This city is more than worth a visit.

Sounds like an amazing place. Beautiful architecture!

Those buildings are so beautiful! What are they used for now? Have you visited a plantation? I'll have to ask my brother some of his favorite places he visited while living in Charleston.
Sounds like it was a fun visit!

They're still houses, as far as I can tell--craziness! They'd be worth a bundle. It really is southern culture--they're into this old world, plantation style, high class type life. it's bizarre in some ways!
Beautiful architecture,(sp) from a very interesting period. So happy that you are able to see this part of the country that is seeped in history. The pictures are wonderful. thanks for sharing. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

You've got me convinced...now if you can find some genealogical reason for a visit, I think we can convince the Papa!
