Happy Birthday, Grandad Dunlap

What a great day December 27th has always been for the Dunlaps. That's the day that our dad was born in 1927....we are so lucky to be the children and grandchildren of Bob Dunlap. The day was made more special 2 years ago when Burke Robert Bennion came into the world. So today we celebrate the 81st birthday of Dad/Grandad/Great Grandad Dunlap and the 2nd birthday of Burke....happy birthday to two of the most wonderful "boys" I know!

I love Dad because:
He taught me to work hard
To meet challenges head on
To believe in God
To see the good in people
To love baseball and all sports
To be honest
To live within my means (I'm still workin' on this one)
To do my best
To never give up
To question ideas
To love good books
To think hard
To enjoy the good thoughts of others
To stand up for what I believed in
To love America and freedom
To believe in ideals
He gave us a happy, sound and solid family life
He planned and carried out (with Mom) great vacations
He encouraged and rooted for me and made me feel I could do anything
He let me cry when I was hurt, but insisted I try again
He expected me to make good decisions and gave me the trust to do so
He supported me through college and gave me the freedom to give it my all
He is smart and wise
He is just an amazing Dad who has had the profoundest effect on my life
Happy Birthday, DAD!

I love Dad because:
He is so supportive of his children and grandchildren. He is always interested in how they are doing and takes genuine delight in their lives and in their accomplishments.
I love Dad because:
He has a fine mind, and loves to discuss ideas and encourages others to think things through as well.
I love Dad because:
He and Mom have raised 3 fine children who love him dearly and have passed that love of their heritage to their offspring.
I love Dad because:
I feel his love for me and that is a source of strength to me and helps me want to honor the trust he has in me.
I love Dad because:
Even though he is a Dodger fan, I know that in his heart of hearts, he really loves the Giants (especially Juan Marichal), even though he doesn't consciously realize it! :)
Love and Admiration,

Happy Birthday Dad, I love you very much. I am so glad I got to be with you on the big 80. Not only do I totally love and respect you beyond measure, I know many of the things that make me who I am today, are a direct result of the principles, beliefs and love you instilled in me. I know from experience that it is not easy to be a hard worker, a thinker, a lover of truth, a Christian, a parent and a great listener but you do it everyday it is a great example to me and others. I love your laugh too, it just makes my day. Happy Birthday Dad.

Happy Birthday Grandpa!

I love Grandpa because...

he has always been a role model for me.

He taught me the game of solitaire. (very useful on days off!)

He always gives good advice.

He is fun to talk politics with.

He is so intelligent (and quite handsome might I add.)

Grandma says he is a very good dancer.

He has a great sense of humor.

He has lots of funny sayings--real ring zingers!

He knows how to have a good time.

He has created an exceptional family.

All of his success he achieved on his own--which is so amazing.

He leads by example.

He has always inspired me.

I remember being a little girl waking up early with him before work in Hawii. I would be sitting at the dining table (or squirming around in the dining room chairs, I never sat still very well) while he ate his toast and read the business section of the newspaper. It was all very adult and very impressive to my 5 year old self. He was dressed very elegantly for work and I was proud he was my Grandpa (as I still am). It was these memories that led to when I was 11 and wanting to be like my Grandfather, I wanted to buy Limited stock (which I thought was a very cool brand/company at that time) and I called him about it and asked what he thought of Limited stock. I had 500 dollars saved and wanted to invest it in Limited stock, obviously wanted to personify that gentleman that read the business section of the newspaper while he ate his toast before work. I don't think I even understood stocks at that age. But I knew that business investments were "Very Adult" and professional and of course I wanted to be very adult. To this day, I still see myself trying to emulate my Grandfather.

He was my first father role model. And probably, deeply psychologically, he is my impression of what a good man is. Thank goodness I have you as my father role model!

You have been a great inspiration to me!! And I love our discussions of politics. You may get a conservative out of me :)

I am so glad I have you for a Grandfather.

I love you truly and dearly!!!

Love,

Naima
