Papa Bear turns 60!

Happy Birthday to the Papa Bear -
I love Richard because
* he is such a good man who will move heaven and earth to do what is right.
* he has taught me the best lessons which include - getting mad does no good, service to others is good for the soul, material things are just things and shouldn't have a hold on our hearts, don't put off a good deed....do it now even if it is a stretch.
* he does not give up easily on a good idea (this has been a tug o war at times, but I have learned the most from Richard here :)
*he is funny
*he is handsome
*he is a great Dad
*he is a great in law to my family
*he is a terrific worker
*he is a great doctor
*he is full of interesting ideas and is a great sounding board
*he is unafraid of big undertakings
*he is a great and creative cook
*he is wise
*he is interested in my ideas and listens well.
*he asks how my day went and is really interested in the answer.
*he lights up whenever he is with our children or grandchildren.
*he loves to hear good news.
*he is not all work and no play - he loves to have fun and is even willing to waste time here and there.
*he is intelligent and could always help the children with their most difficult homework.
*he taught me to "let up" and "chill" on my expectations for our children when they were little...straight A's in kindergarten weren't going to determine career success.
*he values family - past, present and extended
*he is my number one supporter - he is ALWAYS there to support and carry part of the burden of whatever cause, club, or church calling is in my basket!
*he is my favorite companion on earth
I am so lucky to married to my best friend....happy 60th birthday to the silver fox!

I love Richard because he is everything I could ask for in a son. He may only be my son in law, but I love him as I do each of my children.

He truly has all those wonderful traits that Linda has written for us to share.

Richard always make an occasion more special with his ideas, his enthusiasm and his wit.

I love your Rich, as Jackie Gleason would say, "You're the greatest".

Give me a...

D!--Doer. Dad gets things done, gets things going, and always jumps right into the job. I want to be like that.

A!--Always up for a good time

D!--Delightful. Dad is funny and interesting and I love being around him.

D!--Dedicated. When dad has something to do, he does it. He keeps commitments and he follows through (examples, brick patio downtown and the interchange). He supports others.

Y!--Yes-man. Will always serve. I don't know anybody as willing to serve as dad.

B!--Best travel buddy. Not only do I LOVE the trips I've taken with Mom and Dad, but Dad makes everything fun--even errands around town.

E!--Exciting. Dad likes to do fun things. We always have the greatest vacations and family outings. He likes to buy boats.

N!--Nice wingman at wedding receptions. I love that we feel the same about these--in and out, baby.

N!--Not to be beaten gravy maker. And Dad is a great cook over-all.

I!--Intelligent (super-intelligent, in fact). Dad has read all of the primary texts for my thesis. And he retains information in a crazy way.

O!--Outstandingly Handsome.

N!--(k)Nows what to say in all situations. Dad is always so wise, gives fantastic advice, and always has the best insight into my life. I love the letters dad wrote me on my mission which always had the advice and counsel I needed.

Happy happy birthday to the best Dad! I love you and hope you have a great day.

Wow Anna! Very impressive.

I like Dad because he:

Is generous with his time and things.
He makes seemingly insurmoutable obstacles seem very doable.
He has a good sense of humor.
He is intelligent and enjoys diving into an issue.
He is loyal and teaches us to be so.
He is wise and freely shares counsel with others.
He is a hard worker, both physically and emotionally. He is willing to go long to get a good result.
He is tech saavy-the more I think about this the more I appreciate it.
He is kind and loving to Wendy and our children.
He is a fun hiking companion, although it has been far too long since we have been out.
He is Mr. Upper. Being with him makes me happier. He doesn't bring me down.
He introduced us to sports and took us to Giants games.
He is a great example of an ideal Dad.

Happy Birthday Dad!

I think I will just list just three things that I love about Dad instead of trying to one up what everyone else has said:

1. There seems to be nothing that can keep him from accomplishing those things which he determines that he needs to do. I love the perspective of making all efforts to accomplish those things which are right.

2. He finds true joy in giving. I know he likes to stay anonymous so I won’t give examples but it has been a great example.

3. He is not a complainer it is a solver. So many people see obstacles instead of see opportunity and solutions. Dad is someone who see solutions and see the great chance it can be to overcome.

Love you,
Robert Lynn

I like Uncle Richard
because he has always been an inspiration to me. He has such a kindness in his heart and such a true curiousity for the world around him.

I loved looking at the stars in Washington with him (when you brought out the Curious George stars book.) Actually the other day I was looking at the sky and saw the Big Dipper and thought about Uncle Richard, and that it was because of him, that I knew how to find the Big Dipper.

He has an incredible patience and sweetness. I love it that he took Katie out to get her hair done like a princess in Legoland.

He is a genuine people person.

He is so interesting to talk to. He is super intelligent and down to earth (a beautiful combination).

He chose a lovely woman to marry!!! And created six of the best kids!

He always thinks of fun things to do, that every one (no matter age, personality, etc) will find something fun in the project.

He is a great Dad, Uncle, Grandfather.

I am so glad I spent that year in Morgan Hill with him.

He is super.

Happy Birthday!!!
