I hope you have a great day and final week in the office. It is hard to believe that you are retiring. Wendy, Nathan, Katie, Greg, William, Henry, and I love you very much. Thanks for being so kind and generous with your time and resources.
One of my favorite recent memories of you is when you taught our kids to play "Mother May I?" We played it again last night at FHE, with similar results: Youngest kids win, oldest kids in tears. I had a good chuckle about it with Wendy. Dad makes life fun. I am glad I have such a great example for my parenting and being a Father.
May the next year be even better than this last one. I can't wait to see where you will be serving as a missionary.
He makes everyone feel welcome and is extremely quick to compliment others. Even my sister Amber, who has only met him a handful of times, has commented on it :)
He serves, serves, serves
He is the most generous person I know...in words (like the compliments mentioned above), time (taking Ron and Laurie to Disneyland), money, resources (the recliner he gave to a very sick person in the ward) and any other way you could think of. And he doesn't do anything to be "seen of men"
He is wise and gives great advice
He gets things done. He sees something that needs to be done and just starts doing it. He is tireless.
He has a great sense of humor and pulls it out at the best moments.
He is fun and I love the way he plays with his grandchildren.
He was a great father. I can see this by the way his children respect him and talk about him.
I am grateful that he was my husband's example as a person and a father because I think Don is one exceptional spouse and father.
He is the kindest most generous person I know. Some of my fondest memories are my being with him as we worked on another service Project. He always gave great service and really taught all of us how to love it.
He gave me my looks and my voice. Whever I go people remark on how similar I look to my father, and even I have some trouble telling our voices apart.
He is funny (haha, not weird). He has a wonderful sense of humor, and a slightly trickster attitude. He loves the occasional prank, and always does it with such flair and a wonderful attitude.
He is a hard worker. When he sets his mind to something, he makes sure it gets done. Whether it is getting the sprinkler system repaired, or putting in a walkway, Dad can be counted on to drive it to the finish(he is so handy too)
He is a wonderful teacher. Everytime that I've listened to my father teach, I was amazed and interested by what he was saying. Some of the most spiritual moments I have ever had, have been when I have listened to my father's words.
He is loving. While we never were a very affectionate family, we know that our parents loved us. I have so many fond memories of both Mom and Dad spending time with us, and genuinely being concerned about us. I loved how they would take time out of their days to help us with projects, homework, or just being a listening ear. I loved the discussions I had with Dad in the car, and every phone conversation I have with him he has such insightful ideas and really knows who I am.
He is an example of who I want to be, and he has given me a good start, and I love him with all my heart.
Dad is such a great example of service and generosity. He is service oriented by nature and doesn't even question the need to help others. He is so good to Jocelyn and I. He has been the most generous financial backer to me. He is always generous and "rounds up" when giving to others.
Dad is very smart but doesn't put too much stock into how others measure intelligence (grades, tests, etc.). He has accomplished a ton both educationally and professionally and he never boasts about his successes. He is very well read and I am glad he shared "Simba" and "Misty of Chincoteague" with me.
Dad is a hard worker. I am glad that I saw him work hard and that he taught me to push myself to give my best. He always stressed hard work in school, sports, and any service projects. I am glad that was instilled with me.
He is fun. He is the first uncle in the water with the boogie board and he knows how to have a good time and a good laugh. He has a great wit and can really get the family laughing.
He is a great example of being a good husband. He always respected Mom and they are a great team.
Love you Dad. Happy Birthday and congrats on finishing strong.
Happy birthday daddy-o!! Congratulations on retirement and for such a successful and helpful professional life! Wow, I can't believe that chapter is closed--I'm so excited for what you and mom have next.
Dad is the best because:
*He is so funny--Dad comes up with the best jokes and witticisms.
*He is so intelligent--both in his own field and in every other. Dad comes up with great dissertation and ideas and has such a great mind.
*He is so wise--he gives great advice and perspective.
*He is a hard worker and gets things done. I've been moving all of my stuff to various locations over the last week or two and it made me think of Dad and that I'm so glad he taught us to enjoy a job well done.
*He loves the gospel and lives it.
*He is handsome and a great cook--thanks to Dad, I know how to make a killer white sauce.
*He is so fun--Dad knows how to have a good time and how to help others have a good time.

Happy Birthday, Dad!
I love Dad because
He welcomed me into the family with open arms and continues to make me feel loved and accepted
He is an example of Christ-like charity and love.
He is fun to be with.
He makes me want to be a better person.
He loves my children and is a terrific grandfather.
He is loyal and true.
He is a great scouter. I was thinking of Dad and Mom both today while in the Scout Shop suiting Nathan up for Boy Scouts.
He and Mom are going to be wonderful missionaries!
Have a very happy birthday with many happy returns!
Love,
Wendy
