Happy Birthday Mom!

I think Mom and Dad have internet at their campsite, but no cell service (go figure.). So in the hopes she gets this on her day, here is my top ten reasons I love Mom.

Number 10 - She loves music. Be it the Little River Band, Pavarotti, the Supremes, Mozart, or U2, Mom enjoys good music. She is fun to listen to it with and to talk about it with. She even watched Rattle and Hum.

Number 19 - She has a great eye for style. She did the reception, styled the house. She does beautiful things (bows, wrapping, cards, rooms, art, etc)

Number 8 - She is supportive and positive. I love talking to Mom because she is upbeat and makes me upbeat. She is also directly supportive and encouraging and provides a great lift. One word - Scouts.

Number 7 - She is smart and well read. I love seeing Mom's nightstand and getting a feel for her reading list. She appreciates good writing and good thinking and thinks deeply about things.

Number 6 - She is tender to her children and grandchildren. Mom does a great job of being loving to us and to the kids. She plays with them and works with them and knows how important it is. She also passes on her learning about how important it is to do this as a parent.

Number 5 - She laughs hard and well. Mom loves a great joke. She likes laughing and does it very well. She makes you feel like you are the funniest person--until you see her with Don, who can make her laugh harder than anyone.

Number 4 - Mom is down to earth. She is well educated and loves the high thinking but at the same time appreciates the day-to-day stuff in life (hoops, cycling, YouTube, Lost).

Number 3 - Mom is a hard worker. She goes hard at everything she does. Seminary, garden, homework, P-Chem, Girls Camp, Elections, PTA, Booster Club, Whatever. Mom is committed and works to make the thing she is supporting the best that they can be. It is not enough to just watch and follow. Mom works to make things great.

Number 2 - Mom is beautiful. She has great fashion sense and takes the time to look good (the only exception being the MooMoo-Moon Boot combo - which-let's face it-was beautiful in its own way).

Number 1 - Mom is loving. Mom knows how to read people and is good about showing love. I remember Mom coming to school if she knew the day was hard and taking you out for lunch. She is comforting and makes you feel loved. She sends cards and notes. She writes letters and emails. She Skypes and calls and blogs. Mom is great about loving her family.

Thanks, John, for the great beginning! We do have wireless here at Philmont BSA Camp, but it is hard to get on their network!

I love Linda because:
She loves me
She believes in me
She thinks I am terrific and that makes me want to be better
She I beautiful (check out Ali McGraw & Segourney Weaver)
She is happy, happy, happy and always looks for the good (a great trait she inherited from her mother).
She is a worker bee.
And everybody wants to visit with her and feels love and acceptance and comes away strengthened by her.
She is a great teacher and works hard to become even an even better teacher (although that is hard to imagine – she takes real pleasure in sharpening her teaching skills).
And I love her for joining me at the big six-oooh!

A few reasons that I love Mom:

*She is a smart cookie. She always took an interest in our education which I have come to appreciate more deeply as I have worked with kids who have not had the parental guidance in education. More importantly to me is that she also taught us a love for learning and thought. I always have admired her desire for light, learning, and truth.

*She takes such a deep and sincere interest in the interests of others. I really enjoy being able to call and talk to her on a wide variety of subject from political happening & world events to NBA trade rumors. I loved how she would call me after a tough Washington State loss to let me know how much she was rooting for us (yes, I said us).

*I was going to say she is an optimist but I don’t think that really describes what I want to say. Mom sees the good in others and encourages those qualities. She isn’t someone to get dragged down by obstacles but is rather someone that sees solutions. I so admire that quality that I try so hard to follow it (still working on it).

I love you Mom and miss being able to say I love you so much on your birthday

I love Linda because she represents everything that this father prayed for.

She is always there with wisdom, love, concern, and hope for everyone.

She is a fantastic wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She is beautiful (you should get her to show you the pictures from UC Davis).

I love her totally and hope her next sixty years are as rewarding for her as the last sixty have been for all of us.

I love Mom B because:

I don't ever feel like I put her out with all of the help I've asked her for, especially keeping track of so many things for us while we are in Denmark.

She encourages her kids and supports them in whatever endeavors they pursue

Her laugh is contagious...I always feel like laughing when I hear her laugh...it's like hearing her laugh makes me realize the joke/story/situation was even funnier than I first thought. It's a great thing.

She is so smart

I am always amazed at her wealth of knowledge from politics to college sports players...amazing

She is GIFTED with youth. Don and I always remember how a few of her guy seminary students doorbell ditched their house when we were there, and then came in to hang out for a while. How many of us did that with our seminary teachers? Her students adore her.

She has a great eye for beauty and we love getting her advice. When we buy things for our house, she is so emphatic about telling us that she likes them and it makes us feel good about our purchases because we trust her opinion so much!

She is the mom of the handsomest and best guy around

She and Dad B made and make me feel so welcome and such a part of this family

Love you Mom!

Amy

Mom,
I love you so much, and I miss the times we spent talking about books, movies, and our wonderful TV shows. It was a lot of fun to get Dad's Blu Ray Player with you, and to just be able to hang out at home.

I love the example you set for me in taking on any assignment that may come your way. Your work in Seminary is an inspiration, and if those kids knew how much you put into each class I think they would praise your name even more than they do now.

I love your taste in movies and also in books, your gift of Audible to me was one of the greatest gifts I have received.

You have been a wonderful friend to me, and I love you so much.
You have been a wonderful influence in my life, and have taught me to have a wonderful sense of humor. I am so grateful that you are my mother and I hope you have a wonderful birthday.

Love Joe
