First of all, you have to stay back, with weight on the back foot. Then you have to bend at the knees, slowly rising from a slight squat as you follow through, so that the rock, parallel to the surface of the water, rises slightly before gently kissing the water surface for its first skip. As you can plainly see from the picture, your back power foot has "come out of the box".
Greg may find more success with the more traditional right hand approach .....
