"The second day of July 1776 will be the most memorable epocha in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the Day of Deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more."
How right he was! It is a great day full of great memories for me. Parades, picnics, fireworks at the Pulleys, Lemon Ice, Watermelon, Fireworks across Monterey Bay, Asilomar.
Below is a shot of us getting ready to parade around our neighborhood. Katie is in the mumu with the blue helment. Greg has the orange helmet, and Nate is to my left, his head is between the baby's and mothers.

Great picture! What a great tradition for your neighborhood. I hope you get to sponsor a booth. "Fishing" over a curtain with a clothes pin was always my favorite:)
We had a great time last year at your place with our fireworks "extravaganza". Great memories.

Thanks for sharing the great comments from David McCullough's article. I really do agree with amazing Abigail Adams that we ought to go all out and celebrate this great day of independence. I am so glad that you get that opportunity in your adorable neighborhood. You really found a great place to live! MOM
Thanks for the great posts and pictures! Our cute British cook made us burgers and fries and decorated in the red white and blue for dinner. It's not the same as fireworks at home though! Love seeing the kids in the pic. It's been too long.
